How to Prepare for a Family Session
What to expect!
For the day of, try to think of this as a family date or quality time together. My best piece of advice is to focus on each other. Look into your partners & kids eyes, try to make them laugh, hold onto each other and keep each other feeling relaxed and comfortable. As your photographer, will help set up shots and lead you into moments, but I'm relying on you all to try and stay loose and open minded and focused on each other. Often times those unique shots come from when you do something that is uniquely you and we play with that. Just be yourselves and i’ll make sure to capture it beautifully for you!
Remember to relax and have fun! The best family photos are often the ones that capture genuine emotions and interactions. Encourage your family to relax, enjoy the moment, and be themselves. Engage in activities or games that you love as a family to create natural and joyful moments.
Be patient: Family photoshoots can be unpredictable, especially with young children. Be patient and understanding if things don't go exactly as planned. We have plenty of time for things to turn around and get some amazing images for you!
Prepare your children: If you have young children, explain to them in advance what will happen during the photoshoot and what is expected of them. Make sure they are well-fed, rested, and have everything they need to stay comfortable during the session.
What to bring!
In regards to what to bring with you on your shoot, feel free to bring any "props" you might want to incorporate. Anything that is special to you and your family is always fun to incorporate or if there is anything that your kiddos are especially loving these days, feel free to bring those items along if that is something you’d like to document! Definitely not a must, but something to consider. Maybe a blanket, depending on your location.
Bring essentials: Pack a small bag with essential items like snacks, water, tissues, makeup for touch-ups, and any props or sentimental items you want to include in the photos.
What to Wear!
My general guidelines for clothes are…
1. Wear something you’re comfortable in but also use this shoot as an excuse to dress up and wear something new or fun.
2. Coordinate outfits: Consider coordinating your family's outfits without matching them exactly. Choose a color scheme or a style that complements each other and the location. Avoid large logos or busy patterns that can be distracting in the photos.
3. Dress smart for where/when we'll be shooting, avoid clothes & shoes that don't allow you freedom to move around and be yourselves.
4. Accessories can be a great addition to a shoot! Think hats, scarves, etc.
